A Whirlwind Adventure in Belgrade, Serbia
As someone who works at a bustling consulting company, I sometimes find myself feeling stuck in a routine at my home base. There is nothing more tragic than losing your spark and innovative spirit at your workplace. Luckily, sometimes, all you need is a short escape to make you feel refreshed and ready to embark on new projects. For me, that was my visit to Belgrade, the vibrant pulse of Serbia.
Even though it was primarily a business trip, I still found the time to enjoy the charms of Belgrade, and I want to share some of my top locations from this very short but sweet adventure. Since I was traveling to and from Belgrade for most of the trip, what remained was a mere 1.5 days to quench my thirst for wanderlust. If you’ve ever been to Belgrade, or at least done some research, you know it’s a huge city spread across 360 square kilometers. Uncovering everything it has to offer in such a short timeframe is, well—impossible, to say the least. But, bear with me here. We're not ones to lose hope so easily! To make the most of my time there, I selected a few locations that made my stay memorable and have me excited to return soon.
Comfort and Convenience at Central Point Hotel
I stayed at the Central Point Hotel and I must say — it was nothing short of excellent. The staff are professional and polite, and the hotel’s boutique size offered a cozy, peaceful environment. My room was a standard double room, featuring a king-sized bed with hypoallergenic bedding, a spacious desk space for work, and a comfy seating area. Everything was sparkling clean, and the bed was so comfortable that I had some of the best nights of sleep in a long time.
Overall, the interior design of the hotel and the room is modern, clean and minimalist — all the things I love. What I liked the most is that the color scheme is earthy and adjusted for maximum relaxation. My room had a mix of wooden and forest green furniture and decorations, combined with soothing beige walls. There is also plenty of storage space for you to comfortably settle in and feel at home. You have access to a full minibar and a wide selection of free TV channels. The hotel’s location was also ideal for me, since it is only a 15-minute walk from my office, making it incredibly convenient. If you are traveling by car, you will be delighted to know that the hotel also has its own garage, which is accessed via their car elevator, and the kind staff handle your parking for you.
Discovering History at Kalemegdan Fortress
After settling in at the Central Point Hotel, one of my first stops was the historic Kalemegdan Fortress, a site that beautifully merges Belgrade's past with its present. Perched high above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, Kalemegdan offers stunning views of the city. It is no wonder why the Turks named the hill where the fortress stands “the hill for contemplation.” Not only does this name reflect the strategic vantage point because it offers expansive views of the surrounding area, but it is also a perfect place to relax and let your thoughts get lost in the horizon.
The fortress itself is divided into the Upper Town and Lower Town, with the beautiful Kalemegdan Park encircling it. It is not just the most beautiful and largest park in Belgrade, but also the city's most renowned cultural and historical complex. The park was created in the 1880s and was once a military stronghold where soldiers kept watch over approaching enemies. Today, Kalemegdan Park is a beloved promenade for Belgraders and tourists alike. It contains the Military Museum, Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion, City Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments, the Beo Zoo, children's amusement park, sports fields, and numerous restaurants. As I strolled through the park, I couldn't help but admire how it seamlessly blends history, culture, and recreation. It's a place where the past meets the present, offering both a peaceful retreat and a vibrant cultural experience.
A Taste of Korea at K-Food Beograd
On my walk back from the office, I stumbled upon K-Food Beograd, a food shop that felt like a little slice of Korea in the heart of Belgrade. As a k-drama fan, this was one of my trip highlights. If you watch Korean shows, you will know the passion they have for food and, in my case, that absolutely transcends the screen. Watching them cook and enjoy their generously prepared meals never leaves me indifferent. This k-food shop is clean, tidy, and filled with a fantastic selection of Korean delicacies that you would usually see in your favorite TV shows. I couldn’t resist picking up some quick snacks and, this time, my choice was kimchi, seafood noodles, and a mochi-based dessert, which made for a perfect end to a day at work. I also indulged in some Korean skincare products, including sheet masks that worked wonders on my travel-weary skin. This shop is a definite keeper on my travel map.
